- Read this instruction sheet and any instructions printed on the parts package carefully prior to removing the components from the vehicle.
- Do not grip the polished piston rod of a shock with any tool. Nicks or scratches will reduce the shock absorber’s service life.
- Part number on the shock or spring may differ from the part number on the carton. Contents are correct for the vehicle.
WARNING!
- Before servicing any vehicles equipped with original air spring suspension, turn off the "air suspension switch" located on the left panel in the rear cargo area.
- Do not attempt to remove the air spring from the suspension if it still contains air. Clear the air from the spring before servicing.
- If the shocks supplied are nitrogen gas pressurized, do not heat or open.
- Always wear safety glasses for eye protection.
- Use safety stands whenever a procedure requires you to be under a vehicle.
This kit allows for the replacement on conventional rear suspension or equipped with self leveling “Nivomat” suspensions.
This is ONLY for rear suspension. only. Components in this kit are designed to replace worn or non-operational original equipment parts on the vehicle. Only the springs and shock absorbers are provided.
The ride heights for this application noted are after installation of the coil spring. Height will be as measured from centerline of wheel to lower edge of wheel molding. REAR – 30” to 30½”.
If needed, you can refer to the Chrysler original equipment service manual for servicing. This Instruction Sheet is a guideline and due to minor installation difficulty, it is necessary to follow the steps and methods detailed to ensure quality completion.
Inspect all original parts as you remove them from the cartons for correct quantity and any potential damage. Obtain replacements where necessary.
Additional removal procedures are packaged with each damper assembly (within individual cartons).
The vehicle wheel do not necessary need to be removed for this installation.is is a complete module assembly for removal and installation. Refer to installation with the individual cartons of replacement unit.
- Measure the vehicle and make note of the dimensions.
- The vehicle can now be raised at proper lift points and properly supported. It is not necessary to remove wheel and tire assembly.
- Lift high enough to get to rear shock absorbers. Remove the shock absorbers, support properly as these are the rebound or extension stops.
- After the shock absorbers are loose, lower the suspension down. You will need to remove the bolt from the frame attachment for the brake line. This will give additional clearance for the spring to be removed.
- The suspension can be pulled down slightly, then the spring may be removed.
- Once the spring is removed from the vehicle, remove the upper isolator / jounce bumper from the upper spring coil and the lower jounce stop / isolator from the lower spring coil. May need to pry these out due to the catch tabs.
- Place these upper and lower isolators on to the new springs and tap (with hammer) into spring. The spring has no orientation, so may use either end. Repeat for opposite side.
- Install the new springs back into suspension. Jack suspension back into position.
- Install new shock absorbers, reattaching all bolts. Reattach the bolts into the bracket and frame for the brake line that was removed.
- If the wheel and tire assembly were removed from vehicle, reinstall nuts and tighten to 85 ft-lbs (115 N-m).
- Lower vehicle to static height and remove supports.
- Remeasure the vehicle for height. May see a minor increase in height. This should actually be remeasure after driven and several days, as some settling may occur.
