Picture this: you’re faced with a sudden obstacle, and you hit the brakes. In that heartbeat, you count on your vehicle to stop in time. The first test performed, the stopping distance test, showed that reliable shocks can be the lifeline for your customer in these situations.

Monroe’s intensive tests* showed that worn-out shocks can significantly extend a vehicle's stopping distance. The stopping distance of a vehicle with worn shocks can increase by up to 7,6 meters on a dry road—that's equivalent to the length of more than one car. Just visualize that: a car’s length can be the difference between a close call and a catastrophe.

In one scenario, the vehicle equipped with worn shocks exhibited a close to problematic roll angle of 11.2 degrees per second while traveling at 70 kph. A vehicle can tilt dangerously when the roll angle reaches between 12 to 14 degrees per second, emphasizing the critical need to maintain control over the vehicle's roll angle and keep the tires firmly on the road.

*To test the effect of worn shock absorbers, often occurring in older vehicles, Monroe has tested with 2 vehicles (1 with worn out shocks and 1 with new shocks) and performed 2 tests: stopping distance and lane change test. A vehicle with worn shocks, where oil and gas are draining, and a vehicle with new shocks. All other suspension elements of the two vehicles tested were equal, including a new set of tires. Tests were performed by a professional driver from Monroe Intelligent Suspension, at JESCO automotive training school in Belgium.
