Advanced Monotube Units Feature Hydraulic Lockout, Other Exclusive Features For Enhanced Performance and Reliability in Light Trucks, SUVs
Las Vegas, NV - Less than six months after introducing Monroe® Reflex® premium replacement monotube shock absorbers, Tenneco (NYSE: TEN) is expanding product line coverage to include a broad range of popular light truck and sport utility vehicle models.
Monroe® Reflex® monotube shock absorbers are now available for dozens of late-model light trucks and SUVs that were factory-equipped with monotube technology. Monotube technology helps deliver the fast, precise damping response needed to keep tires in firm contact with the road, as required in some applications and driving conditions. Tenneco engineers developed the new Monroe® Reflex® monotube offering to help service providers restore OE-style performance ride and handling on vehicles designed to use monotube shocks.
Monroe® Reflex® monotube shock absorbers feature a high-pressure gas charge separated from the units’ internal oil to provide additional spring rate and help maximize damping efficiency and control. The Monroe® Reflex® design provides up to a 50-percent larger internal working area than some standard OE and replacement units, thereby delivering additional strength. To further enhance ride control characteristics, Monroe® Reflex® monotube shocks include a hydraulic lockout to cushion the impact whenever the vehicle suspension is fully extended.
"Monotube shocks are an excellent choice for vehicles engineered to use this technology," said Mark Christiaanse, director of product management for the Monroe® product line. "Our OE-inspired approach to product design helps ensure that Monroe® dealers can offer precisely the right technology to meet the ride and handling requirements of each customer and vehicle."
This approach differs from the strategies of some competing shock and strut manufacturers, who encourage service dealers to choose monotube designs for virtually all replacement applications, according to Christiaanse. "Vehicle manufacturers identify the ideal ride control technology for each model," he said. "Using a non-OE design can change a vehicle’s spring rate and lead to degraded comfort and control."
