TENNECO TARGETING INCREASED COVERAGE LEADERSHIP FOR MONROE® SHOCKS AND STRUTS

Company Investing in 215 New Ride Control SKUs to Achieve 98 Percent Coverage Of North American Registrations; Leadership to Grow in Domestic and Import Categories

Las Vegas, NV - Tenneco (NYSE: TEN) has announced that its Monroe® shocks and struts product line will achieve 98 percent coverage of North American passenger vehicle registrations in 2006. The brand already is the replacement ride control market’s coverage leader, with application-engineered shocks and struts for 96.7 percent of domestic and import passenger vehicles.

Tenneco will add 215 ride control SKUs to its Monroe® product line next year. The new part numbers will offer coverage of more than 3.7 million late-model vehicle registrations. The expansion includes 134 new part numbers for popular import models from manufacturers such as Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Hyundai, Lexus, and Kia.

"The Monroe® brand’s coverage leadership represents an important investment in our customers’ businesses," said Mark Christiaanse, director of product management for the Monroe® brand. "Distributors, jobbers and service providers understand that every sale lost due to a product coverage issue represents a wasted customer relationship opportunity. It’s part of our heritage to be there with the right part at the right time – and we’re continuing this tradition."

More than two-thirds of the new Monroe® ride control SKUs cover vehicles manufactured since the 2003 model year. Several new Monroe® ride control SKUs represent first-to-market coverage of popular import applications, including late-model Honda Accords and Toyota Corollas.

"Aftermarket shops need the right parts and best brands to compete for business in the import category. Monroe® offers exceptional products tuned to each vehicle’s ride and handling profile, plus late-model coverage that gives them an advantage over competing shops," Christiaanse said.

Premium Monroe Sensa-Trac® shocks and struts feature 'prescription' construction and valve configurations engineered to provide OE-style ride and handling. Vehicles designed to deliver a control-intensive ride are covered by Sensa-Trac® shocks and struts featuring acceleration-sensitive damping technology for a tighter, 'European' ride. Vehicles designed for a more plush ride feature the Monroe® brand’s position-sensitive damping technology, which enhances comfort while responding with increased control in more challenging road conditions. In cases where the vehicle was manufactured with monotube-style shock absorbers, the corresponding Sensa-Trac® shock features monotube construction.

For light trucks, minivans and sport-utility vehicles, technicians and consumers also have the choice of ride-tuned Monroe Reflex® shocks and struts. These units feature the next-generation Monroe Reflex® Acceleration Sensitive Damping system, which reacts within 12 milliseconds to road impacts. This increased control, ideally suited to applications with higher centers of gravity, helps reduce vehicle pitch and roll rates.
